Why Desi?
We have a strange relationship with the objects around us. We name them, customize them, personalize them, and even keep them covered for a long time so that they would look new after a few years. When things don’t work, our instinct is to slap or shake it. We shout at our stalled vehicle as if it is at fault. We apologize to the book when we accidentally step on it.
Traditionally, Design has been dominated by Western aesthetics and ideas, which can lead to a homogenization of Design and a lack of understanding and appreciation for other cultures. “I See Desi” aims to challenge this hegemony by centring Indian continent cultures and incorporating their unique visual language and design elements into contemporary Design.
